Our Creative Corner Sketch and CC261

Its been another windy day here in El Paso... which makes a good day to get some crafting done! This card is for two challenges, I love to combine color & sketch challenges. Today, I inked up one of my all time favorite stamp sets designed by Shawne - Studio 313 at Clear Dollar Stamps. It is called Biggest Wishes, isnt this little birthday mouse just the most adorable?? I just love her! The challenges are the Splitcoast Color Challenge CC261 -- Bashful Blue, Certianly Celery & Melon Mambo. Great spring / Easter colors!

Hello! Happy Thursday! Today is definately a happy Thursday because my shows are back on! Yeah for that! Anyway, today I was inspired by Tuesday's color challenge on Splitcoast. The colors are a yummy Chocolate Chip, Rich Razzleberry and Pretty in Pink. As soon as I set out these colors, this delicious stamp set came to mind, How Sweet it is from My Favorite Things. And, as this submission is titled, I also used this challenge to practice my Prismacolor pencils & Gamsol technique, and I have to say, that I am much happier with this attempt than my first. (Yeah!) Get Sketchy #18 & CC249

{Sigh} I just love this little eskimo! I had been eyeing this adorable stamp set from Clear Dollar for months and months now, I put it in my shopping cart and then saved it for later so many times I cant keep track. Finally, I mean FINALLY, I put a little birthday money to good use and ordered this super cute stamp set, Winter Eskimo from Clear Dollar Stamps.
This card was created to satisfy two challenges, the sketch challenge at Get Sketchy and the color challenge at Splitcoast. I love to combine a color challenge with a sketch! The talented gals at splitcoast challenge us to use Mellow Moss, So Saffron and Melon Mambo (or Rose Red) with a neutral. I just love how happy little Miss Eskimo is. Just look at those rosey cheeks and happy grin. Cant help but smile when I look at her. I hope you find her just as pleasing!

Color Challenge 221 Fifth Ave

Today's color challenge on splitcoast

was just that, a challenge. The colors today are kiwi kiss, tangerine tango and riding hood red with a optional neutral. I immediately thought of fifth avenue floral (su) I stamped the flowers with stazon jet black and commenced to watercolor and cut out the flowers before I planned anything else. I watercolored the centers in kiwi kiss and the flower petals are in riding hood red, tangerine tango then both on the middle flower. After much struggle, I used whisper white for my card back, then a wide strip of kiwi kiss embossed with swiss dots with the corners shaped with the ticket punch (su) for my background. Then I found a piece of urban garden dsp that had the same subtle flower print. I used labels 4 for the dsp and for the tangerine tango label. I stamped "always" from small script (su) in riding hood red, (not sure about that choice) with dew drops on either side of the sentiment. I tied riding hood red taffeta ribbon around the kiwi kiss to anchor the card, and to add more rhred. I adhered the flowers with dimentionals to give them a little, well dimention. :0) Thank you for stopping by and for sharing your thoughts!

Ways to Use it Challenge WT220 * Buttons *

This is my submission for this week's ways to use it challenge over at splitcoast. http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=439401 The challenge this week is to use buttons on our project. Well, I too love buttons! I especially love my button latte and button bouquets (su) Instantly, this stamp set, Season of Friendship (su) one of my favs, came to mind. I affixed all the buttons with glue dots. I stamped the tree on very vanilla and cut it out. I used chocolate chip cardstock, then baja breeze dsp, very vanilla sponged with pink pirouette, then bella rose dsp in chocolate chip (all colors su). The first thing I did was cut out the largest labels 3 nestie in pink pirouette dsp to go under the tree, but as you can see, I forgot it! I found it when I was cleaning up and by then, it was way too late. But, I am happy with the results, maybe more than I would be if I hadnt forgotten the nestie. Finally, I used a sentiment from the Words from the Heart stamp set (su). Yeah! I will probably have to hang onto this one for a little while before I send it out. Sketch challenge #SC229

Here is my submission for this week's sketch challenge over at splitcoast. I went out of my comfort zone and ordered some basic grey paper and brads.. why is that out of my comfort zone you ask? Well, I admit, I am a bit of a paper snob and have only used Stampin Up up to this point... So I added to the challenge by using the basic grey "granola" paper. And what a suprise, large curvy rectangle nesties! I used the kraft striped paper from the textiles collection for my card base, two sheets from the basic grey granola papers, and kraft for my season of friendship (su) tree that is stamped in chocolate chip. The sentiment is stamped on the same paper as the card base, also in chocolate chip. The flowers are from SU flower fusion and the brads are basic grey granola. I sponged the edges of the components with chocolate chip as well. At least I have gotten my dollar's worth out of these nesties! The good news is my new dahila nesties came today, so I will try those next! Thanks Cassie for the great inspirations! And thanks for looking!

Color Challenge 219 Wishes

This is my submission for today's color challenge over at http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/ Once again, Emily chose some great and very challenging colors! The colors this week are: Only Orange, Brillant Blue and Purely Pomegranate. I knew I wanted to use my new stamp set from http://www.cleardollarstamps.com/ called Biggest Wishes. A super cute set of three for only $4.99 ! I first chose the large curvy rectangle nestie set and colored it in using my only orange and brillant blue su markers and watercolored the purely pomegranate-- very carefully. This stamp is very detailed.I did not want to color the cake itself, so I applied glitter to help it stand out a bit. Also, I wanted to try shaping the card itself with a nestie. I saw it somewhere on a tutorial, wish I remembered where.. Suprisingly it worked. I remembered on the tutorial to let the top part of the nestie hang over the paper leaving the fold and cutting thru both layers at the same time. Easy peasy. Then I continued cutting nesties, one in floral purely pomegranate dsp from the candy lane collection (floral to mirror the flowers on her dress) and one strip of only orange for accent. I also ran that strip thru with the delicate dots embossing folder to mirror the polka dots on the cake. Finally, after much deliberation, I decided to add the sentiment on an only orange circle nestie cut out and added some glitter. I am still not sure if I should have added that or not.. All in all, this was a very fun card to make and I am happy with the results!

Clean & Simple Challenge #15

This is my submission for monday's clean and simple challenge. The challenge was to use "black and white and one bold bright." I chose lovely lilac for my bold bright and once again, I chose the "beautiful butterflies" set from http://www.cleardollarstamps.com/ . I embossed the card itself and embossed the lovely lilac as well, then lined them up so the embossing flowed from lilac to black. I used watercolor paper for the butterfly and watercolored in lovely lilac. I have the stampin spots for my bold brights and when I want to watercolor with one I flip over my cutting mat to the smooth and shiny side and smash down the stampin spot to release some ink onto the cutting mat, then I dab my watercolor pen right into the ink just as I would with a regular stamp pad. One thing I wish I would have done.. I threw out all the packaging for all my embossing folders, and I have no memory of their names.. I should have written the name on the back with a sharpie.. I would really like to accurately describe which embossing folder I am using. You can bet I will be doing that with any future embossing folders !

Today's sketch challenge SC223

Here is my submission for the sketch challenge over on http://splitcoaststampers.com/ Once again, it took me forever to execute what may seem to some to be a simple task. I kept messing up the sentiment at the bottom. Seriously it must have been 5 or 6 tries befor I finally adhered the sentiment to the card.

I got the idea of the woven square from a sketch challeng over on http://papercraftplanet.com/ sk040409. It is a pretty simple way to add that something extra to the card. I used baja breeze dsp and the riding hood red floral print paper from candy lane dsp. The strips are 1/2 inch long and I just folded over the excess and adhered them to the back.

I stamped the coffee pot on the back side of riding hood red texturd paper and paper pieced it onto the white stamped image to give it just a touch of texture and depth. The black is from stampin up's new taste of textiles collection, black linen texture to be exact... The white brads are 5/16".
